The Oyo State Government has distributed festive commodity advances to 2,500 civil and public servants across the state in preparation for the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Governor Makinde reportedly instructed the corporation to provide economic relief to enable workers to celebrate the festival with ease despite current economic challenges.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), Taofeek Akeugbagold, took place at the corporation’s premises in Total Garden, Ibadan.
According to Akeugbagold, the distributed items included rams, bags of rice, vegetable oil, and other food items. He noted that the scheme was implemented under the directive of Governor Seyi Makinde as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to support workers’ welfare, particularly during festive seasons.
“Over 5,000 public workers have benefited from the scheme so far,” Akeugbagold said, adding that the commodities were provided at subsidised rates significantly lower than prevailing market prices.
The repayment for the items will be spread over three months, with deductions made directly from the beneficiaries’ salaries.”
Akeugbagold explained that the intervention was prompted by the recent surge in the prices of essential commodities, particularly during festive periods, and was aimed at easing the economic burden on workers.
The ACCOS chairman also reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to expanding the scheme in future editions to include more workers and contribute to the government’s broader agenda of promoting inclusive economic support and social stability.
One of the beneficiaries, Kunle Adeyemo, expressed gratitude for the support.
