OAU Orders Immediate Closure as Transport Protests Turn Unruly

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife, has ordered an immediate shutdown of the campus, directing students to vacate and proceed on a mid-semester break following escalating protests.

‎The decision was approved by the university’s Senate after recent demonstrations by students over the newly introduced transportation system degenerated into unrest

‎According to a Statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the decision became necessary after a series of protests by students over the newly introduced transportation system.

‎Mr. Olanrewaju said the decision aimed to restore order, ensure safety and create an enabling environment for meaningful dialogue with Stakeholders.

‎He assured that the University Management would continue to engage relevant stakeholders to address the concerns raised and to ensure that normalcy is restored on campus.

‎The OAU PRO urged Parents and guardians to take note of the development and ensure the necessary arrangements for their children and wards.

‎The School Management enjoined Students to remain law-abiding and use this period responsibly and reteirated its commitment to the welfare of the students and to maintaining a peaceful and conducive academic environment for all.
