The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife, has ordered an immediate shutdown of the campus, directing students to vacate and proceed on a mid-semester break following escalating protests.
The decision was approved by the university’s Senate after recent demonstrations by students over the newly introduced transportation system degenerated into unrest
According to a Statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the decision became necessary after a series of protests by students over the newly introduced transportation system.
Mr. Olanrewaju said the decision aimed to restore order, ensure safety and create an enabling environment for meaningful dialogue with Stakeholders.
He assured that the University Management would continue to engage relevant stakeholders to address the concerns raised and to ensure that normalcy is restored on campus.
The OAU PRO urged Parents and guardians to take note of the development and ensure the necessary arrangements for their children and wards.
The School Management enjoined Students to remain law-abiding and use this period responsibly and reteirated its commitment to the welfare of the students and to maintaining a peaceful and conducive academic environment for all.
