The Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged champions of the 2025 Unity Cup after a thrilling 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Jamaica at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, United Kingdom.
The pulsating encounter ended 2-2 in regulation time, with both sides unable to find a winner in 90 minutes. Nigeria eventually held their nerve in the shootout, converting all five penalties to claim the title.
Moses Simon gave Nigeria an early lead in the 9th minute, but Jamaica responded swiftly through Kaheim Dixon, who equalised just three minutes later.
The Super Eagles regained the advantage in the 53rd minute, courtesy of a brilliant strike from Samuel Chukwueze. However, Jamaica struck back again in the 63rd minute through Jon Russell, forcing the game into penalties.
Eric Chelle’s men showed composure under pressure, converting all their spot kicks to secure the trophy.
This victory marks Nigeria’s third Unity Cup title, having previously won the tournament in 2002 and 2004. The 2025 edition also marks the return of the competition after a long hiatus.
The Unity Cup is an international football tournament hosted in London, featuring nations with significant diaspora communities in the city.
