ONITSHA INFERNO: Filling Station Destroyed, Worker Hospitalised

Fire has destroyed a filling station in Onitsha, Anambra State thereby causing a colossal damage to the property.

The fire, which started at about 9 o clock in the night, raged for several hours before the arrival of firefighters from the Anambra State Fire Service.

Firefighters commenced operation immediately on arrival to bring the inferno under control and prevent it from spreading to other facilities.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, a security guard at the filling station said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, noting that the tanker had finished discharging fuel before the fire started.

A fuel attendant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said no life was lost, but one of the workers who assisted in discharging the fuel sustained burns and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Efforts to speak with the manager of the filling station proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Fire Service has confirmed that the situation is under control, with its men conducting final safety checks to ensure the area is safe.
