Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in collaboration with Toltem International Limited, has officially unveiled unique digital identity cards for senior secondary school students across the state.
The launch event, held at the Ministry’s conference room, marks a major step forward in enhancing the security, welfare, and data management of students.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, explained that the initiative would provide a unique and verifiable identity that would make it easier for schools to manage students.
Speaking on the benefits of the I.D. card, Ajibefun said it would manage students’ records, improve security, monitor enrollment, and enhance communication between stakeholders within the education sector, which he believed would lay a strong foundation for future digital education services and innovations that would benefit the students and the schools.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Akindele Ige commended the partner, Toltem International Limited, for partnering with the Ministry to bring the laudable initiative into reality, while emphasizing that the partnership demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector in driving sustainable development in education.
He appreciated the principals, students, teachers, and parents for their support toward the success of the program, while encouraging stakeholders to embrace the initiative and ensure its effective implementation across the state.
He affirmed the commitment of the government to building an education system that is secure, innovative, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the learners in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, who was represented by the Director, Inspectorate and Quality Assurance, Prince Olu Obajulaiye while giving the welcome remarks, said the initiative forms part of the broader reform strategies being implemented by the Ministry to strengthen governance, improve accountability, and enhance the overall management of the education sector in the state.
He reiterated that the I.D. card would serve multiple purposes, such as identification within and outside school premises, improving security across public secondary schools, and supporting accurate record-keeping, which he said would cut impersonation and strengthen examination integrity.
The P.S averred that the card will assist schools, security agencies, and communities in identifying students, preventing unauthorized access to school environments, and responding to emergencies where necessary.
The Permanent Secretary promised that the initiative would not be a one-off activity and the I.D for the primary schools and the JSS classes would commence while the ministry would surely ensure proper distribution and orientation of school administrators in establishing clear guidelines for the use and replacement of the cards.
He urged parents and guardians to support the initiative by ensuring students keep their identity cards safely and use them responsibly, while urging schools to enforce their use and prevent misuse or neglect.
The representative of Toltem International Limited, Mr. Samuel Adedeji, the believed that technology would be used to solve real challenges and create opportunities for growth, while saying they are proud to contribute their expertise and resources toward building a modern educational infrastructure that would benefit students, schools, parents, and government alike.
He therefore assured the Ministry, school administrators, parents, and students of ensuring the deployment and sustainability of the program, as their team would work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless implementation across all senior secondary schools in Ondo State.
Speaking on the various possibilities, Adedeji said the ID card platform would create a foundation upon which additional student services, educational innovations, and digital solutions could be built in the future, further advancing the State’s vision for a technology-enabled education system.
He appreciated the Ondo State Government, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, school leaders, and all stakeholders for their support and collaboration toward the success of the project.
