Voting has commenced in most polling units across Ekiti State with reports indicating a generally peaceful process, despite minor challenges recorded in some areas.
At St. Silas Primary School, Omuo-Oke II in Ekiti East Local Government Area, accreditation and voting were ongoing in a calm atmosphere.
Electoral officials gave priority to elderly persons and women with children, while a strong security presence was observed at the polling unit to ensure orderliness.
In Ise/Orun Local Government Area, some voters arrived as early as 6:50 a.m. at Ofigba Community Primary School to verify their names on the voters’ register.
However, a number of them expressed concern after failing to find their names on the displayed list. Meanwhile, electoral officers were seen arranging materials and preparing for the commencement of voting.
Earlier in the day, distribution of election materials proceeded smoothly at various local government offices, including Ilejemeje and other designated centres. Although minor disagreements were reported among some ad hoc staff over deployment arrangements, election materials were dispatched to polling units without major disruptions.
At Odo Ode, Iparao in Ijero Local Government Area, voting was in progress, but some voters complained about the slow pace of the process and the intense heat.
Elderly persons were observed taking shelter away from the sun, while others sat on the ground as they awaited their turn to vote.
Meanwhile, at Araromi in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, electoral officials reported low voter turnout despite a peaceful environment.
With security personnel on ground, officials expressed concern over the poor turnout and urged eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility.
