In line with the Corps mandate on school safety, the Deputy Commandant of Corps, Olakanse Folasade Olubunmi, Head of the Safe School Unit, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Akure, and her team paid a working visit to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, on Monday, 9th March 2026.
In a statement by the Head, Media Relations, NSCDC Ondo State Command, SC Daniel Aidamenbor indicates that the visit was aimed at strengthening and restructuring the security architecture within the university in order to ensure a conducive learning environment and a safe space for students.
During the meeting, DCC Folasade emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering, noting that the Corps remains committed to ensuring safety within communities, schools, and critical infrastructure across the State.
She further stated that the Safe School Unit and the Corps at large look forward to deepening their partnership and strengthening collaboration with the university.
In her response, the Vice Chancellor appreciated and warmly welcomed DCC Folasade and her team. She noted that, so far, the university and the State have been relatively free from major security challenges.
The Vice Chancellor assured the delegates of the university’s willingness to support the initiative and requested the deployment of personnel to enhance security within the campus, particularly at strategic locations.
She concluded by stating, “If the community is safe, everybody is safe.”
Earlier, the safe school team had an interface with the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. David Oke, where the importance of the Unit at both the National and state levels was emphasized.
