Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has called for a constitutional amendment to allow a single five – or six-year term for political office holders in Nigeria.
He made the call at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan while receiving the state delegation who paid him a Sallah homage following the Eid Kabir prayers held at the Agodi Eid Prayer Ground.
Governor Makinde maintained that a single-term system would enhance good governance by reducing the distractions and pressure associated with re-election campaigns, thereby promoting better service delivery and accountability.
The Governor therefore urged stakeholders to look the issue which has been discussed at the National Assembly.
He expressed appreciation to Islamic leaders and the Muslim Ummah for their prayers and support, which he said have significantly contributed to the success of his administration.
Delivering the messages of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan,Oba Rashidi Ladojal enjoined people to remain steadfast and hopeful in the face of challenges.
