The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will deploy about 1.4 million ad-hoc personnel across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide for 2027 general election.
The INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan stated this in Abuja when he received a Pre-Election Assessment Mission delegation of the International Republican Institute (IRI), led by former US assistant secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Jendayi Frazier.
Professor Amupitan said the Commission would
strengthen its logistics arrangements, including collaboration with transport unions, to ensure that polling units open at 8:30 a.m. on election day.
He also said that the Commission would provide assistive devices for persons with disabilities pregnant women, the elderly and nursing mothers to improve access to polling units.
On 2027 Electioneering Campaign,the INEC Chairman called on political parties and candidates to embark on issue based campaigns, ideas and policies rather than violence and personal attacks.
In a remark, the President, International Republican Institute Dr Jendayi Frazier, expressed willingness of the international community to support Nigeria’s preparations for the 2027 polls.
Dr Frazier urged politicians and their supporters to avoid violence during the campaigns.
