Former NBC Boss Challenges Media Practitioners on Fake News

A veteran broadcaster and former Director at the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC , Mr Eddy Aina, has advised Media Practitioners to embrace investigative journalism and fact checking as tools to curtail the spread of fake news in the country.

Mr. Aina gave the advice in Abeokuta, at the 2023 World Television Day celebration, organised by the Consolidated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council.

Speaking on the topic: Media Space For Information Access In Nigeria, under the theme “Television: A Strategic Tool For Conflict Management and Nation Building, Mr Aina emphasized the need for media practitioners to ensure that rural dwellers are well served with objective and balanced information.

The Former NBC Boss noted that Television should be used as an effective tool to create the necessary awareness about the challenges and successes of the people in relation with governments at all levels, without neglecting the rural communities.

In a keynote address,MrsToun Okewale-Sonaiya, represented by Mrs Esther Alaribe encouraged the media to be objective, open, and responsible in delivering accurate and trustworthy information to the public in spite of the prevailing challenges confronting media sector.

Earlier, the Chairman of Consolidated Chapel of the NUJ, Mr Olusegun Olukoga had encouraged media practitioners to continue to live up to expectations as agents of change.
