The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Bashiru, has cautioned Nigerians not to be deceived by the recent moves by opposition leaders to form a coalition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Ibadan during a media engagement tagged “Moment with Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Bashiru”, organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B, the APC chieftain described the coalition as a desperate and confused arrangement that lacks structure and ideological direction.
He argued that the coalition was bound to collapse soon, as it is driven by individual ambition and political opportunism, not the collective interest of Nigerians.
“People should not allow themselves to be confused by this so-called coalition,” he said. “In a presidential system, you cannot talk of being in Labour Party and at the same time in ADC. It is strange, it is unknown, and it reflects the state of confusion among those pushing it.”
Bashiru added that no serious politician would abandon what he described as the strong, tested, and competent electoral platform of the APC to join what he called “an unknown organisation.”
He dismissed claims that President Tinubu’s re-election bid was being resisted in the North, describing such narratives as false and mischievous.
“The North is solidly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated. “Only those who never meant well for the region are pushing that narrative. In Katsina, for instance, all political structures have collapsed into support for the APC and Tinubu’s 2027 agenda.”
He urged Nigerians to remain focused and not be swayed by what he termed the “noise of desperate politicians” whose only goal is to return to power at all costs.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027,” he declared. “Those with presidential ambition should wait till 2031.”
