Bishop Akinfenwa, whil speaking during the Christmas service held at St James the Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, noted that there have been reported cases of attacks on churches and the abduction of priests in different parts of the country, developments which have instilled fear in the hearts of worshippers.
According to the bishop, these incidents have discouraged many Christians from attending church services and participating fully in Christmas activities.
Most Reverend Akinfenwa described the situation as disturbing, stressing that Christmas is a period meant for peace, love and communal celebration.
He called on leaders at all levels of government to be more intentional and proactive in tackling the security challenges confronting the masses.
The bishop emphasized that addressing insecurity requires decisive action, improved intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration among security agencies.
He urged the government to prioritize the protection of lives, places of worship and public spaces, especially during festive periods.
Most Reverend Akinfenwa also appealed to security agencies to intensify patrols and reassure citizens of their safety during the season.
“Nigerians deserve to be happy during the yuletide season, adding that nothing should be allowed to intimidate them or threaten their lives.”
