Independence Day: First Lady, Mrs Tinubu, Makinde’s Wife Gift Children with Disabilities
As Nigeria celebrates it’s 64th Independence Anniversary, children with disabilities have benefited from the Renewed Hope Initiative of the first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the wife of the governor of Oyo state ,Mrs Tamu nominini Makinde.
At the presentation of the gifts,the children who were randomly selected from 15 different homes across Oyo state,the wife of the governor Mrs Makinde called on Nigerians to celebrate the independence with the spirit of inclusion which would embrace the country’s differences by ensuring a brighter future for the special children.
Represented by the State’s Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni who appreciated the care givers called for support, care and empowerment for the vulnerable children.
To all the children here, always remember that you are strong and you are loved. I encourage you to keep dreaming big, keep believing in yourselves, and know that you are capable of achieving anything you set your hearts and minds to. You are not defined by your disabilities but rather, by your abilities, your spirit, and your limitless potential”
While commending the the wife of the state’s governor for the gifts,Mrs Ibilola Oshin from Treasure Down syndrome noted that it wasn’t easy taking care of the children,” in the history of Oyo state i have never benefited from things like this but in March,they celebrated Easter with us,infact for some months now,we couldn’t eat beans but with this foodstuffs and some of the items we will be able to feed the children well enough”
Another Care giver from Galilee foundation who is also the state’s secretary, Association for orphanage Homes ,Mr Tolulope Maboreje noted that the gifts would support and cater for the homes for a long time especially going by the current economic challenges confronting the country. ” With these gifts, especially the foodstuffs,we can feed the children well,even they would wear the clothes during special occasions”
The children who danced to different lovely tunes received clothes,Toys, foodstuffs, toiletries and cash gifts.
