Women Must Become Entrepreneurs, Not Just Beneficiaries – Minister

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion through stronger institutional collaboration.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Ahmed Danbazau.

According to the statement, the development followed a meeting between the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and a delegation from the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI), led by the Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, Dr Nurudeen Abubakar Zauro, in Abuja.

The statement said the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration for the successful implementation of the second edition of the “She’s Included” National Initiative aimed at promoting women’s financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, digital empowerment, access to finance and economic participation.

The Minister described the return of the initiative as evidence of its impact and growing national acceptance, stressing that women should be empowered to become entrepreneurs, investors and owners of productive enterprises rather than remain beneficiaries of intervention programmes.

She also called for stronger collaboration among Ministries, Departments and Agencies, development partners and the private sector to eliminate duplication of empowerment programmes and ensure wider access to government interventions through technology-driven beneficiary management systems.

Earlier, the Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, Dr Nurudeen Zauro, commended the Minister for her support towards advancing women’s economic empowerment and disclosed that the Federal Government’s digital skills initiative has onboarded more than 263,000 Nigerians, with women and youths receiving priority.

Dr. Zauro added that the “She’s Included” initiative has evolved into a national platform bringing together government institutions, development partners, financial institutions and the private sector to expand women’s access to finance, technology, skills development and economic opportunities.
