Wives for Free: Swaziland Offers Citizenship Rights to Polygamous Men
The government of Swaziland now seeks men who are ready to marry many wives, saying it would grant them citizenship rights.
According to reports, the intention is to welcome men from neighboring Southern African nations who are interested in becoming citizens of the country citing scarcity of men as reasons for the decision
The country, however exempted Malawi from the nations from which application for the country’s citizenship would be accepted.
A letter dated 8th March, 2024 and signed by King Mswati lll the government of the southern African nation with a current population of less than two million stated interested men must marry five wives as condition for granting citizenship while it will pay for the marriage ceremonies and buy houses for successful applicants.
