The Virtuous Girl Child Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has launched a scholarship scheme for indigent students in Ibadan to mark its 10th anniversary.
The initiative, tagged “Legacy of an Icon Scholarship Project”, was unveiled during the foundation’s annual Legacy of an Icon Conference held at the auditorium of Christ Followers Evangelical Ministry (New Glory), Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan.
The announcement sparked excitement among participating teenagers.
Founder of the foundation, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Komolafe, said the scholarship aims to support the education of less privileged children and help them overcome the barriers of poverty.
She explained that the intervention would ensure that financial limitations do not hinder students from achieving their dreams.
Last year, the foundation provided free coding training for teenagers in Ibadan to equip them with technological skills relevant to the global workforce.
This year’s scholarship beneficiaries are Olamobi Olaleye, from the primary school category, and Matthew Elizabeth Adetola, from the secondary school category.
Mrs. Komolafe noted that the award would cover school fees and textbooks.
Guest speaker at the conference, Mrs. Temilade Ogundijo, who spoke on the theme “A Life Well Lived Inspiring Generations”, urged teenagers to discover and live by their purpose despite life’s challenges.

In her exhortation, the host minister and founder of Christ Followers Evangelical Ministry, Prophetess Esther Adebayo, admonished teenagers to avoid sexual immorality, fraud, and other social vices. 
Speaking in Yoruba, she charged parents to be good role models, warning against over-pampering children.
“My children, humble yourselves. Listen when corrected, fear God, serve Him, and leave behind a good legacy,” she said.
