University of Ilorin Student Commits Suicide
A two hundred Level student of University of Ilorin, Hameedat Sanni has reportedly taken her own life over a failed financial transaction.
A statement by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun made available to newsmen describing the incident as ” most horrible way to die, especially for a promising young lady who had every opportunity before her to make it big in life”.
Mr Akogun expressed the University’s sympathy to the parents, siblings, friends and colleagues of the deceased and prayed that God gives them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The University Management however, counselled students to be wary of the company they keep in order not to fall into the traps of scammers.
The deceased was said to have been defrauded by a male friend, whom she lent the sum of five hundred thousand Naira to offset his supposed mother’s medical bill.
Further investigation revealed that Hameedat Sanni ingested a bottle of pesticide which eventually resulted in her death even after a swift rescue response.
The sum of one million Naira was said to have been kept in her custody by her mother, out of which she gave five hundred thousand to the unsuspected fraudster.
Upon discovering she had been scammed, she then decided to borrow some money from online agents which she could not pay back and was put under pressure.
