President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest the U.S. assets of the short-video app TikTok until September 17, despite legislation requiring a sale or shutdown in the absence of significant progress.
He signed an executive order delaying Thursday’s deadline by 90 days, a move he had previously indicated was likely.
President Trump has stated that he wishes to keep the app operational in the United States, noting its role in helping him connect with younger voters during the 2024 presidential election.
