Christians in Nigeria have been urged to remain steadfast in their faith and demonstrate love despite the rising insecurity confronting the church.
The General Director of Scripture Union Nigeria, Mr. Cosmos Uwem, made the call at the flag off of 2026 Daily Reading Notes during a breakfast meeting with pastors, school proprietors and interdenominational leaders at the SU House, Samonda, Ibadan.
Mr. Uwem noted that the wave of attacks on churches across the country could be likened to persecution, stressing the need for believers to hold firmly to God and continually intercede for the peace of the nation.
Speaking shortly before the launch of the 2026 devotional notes produced by Scripture Union, the General Director encouraged Christians to take advantage of the increasing availability of devotional materials to strengthen their quiet time and family devotion practices.
Also speaking, the Scripture Union Chairman, Osogbo Region, Mr. Pat Adekuroye, advocated the development of a strong biblical framework to nurture children early and prepare them for the future.
Oyo State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, called on government to take decisive action against persistent attacks on churches, warning that leaders remain accountable to God for the lives lost.
Rev. Ogundiya, who noted that persecution is an inherent part of Christian life, further urged believers to remain unwavering in their faith in Jesus Christ.
