Shettima Cancels Samoa Trip after Object Hit Aircraft’s Windscreen in New York

The Vice President of Nigeria , Kashim Shettima has cancelled his trip to Samoa for the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit after an object struck his plane’s cockpit windscreen during a stopover at JFK Airport, New York.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu has promptly approved a ministerial delegation, led by Environment Minister Alhaji Balarabe Abass Lawal, to represent Nigeria at the summit in Apia, Samoa.

The summit, which began on October 21 and will conclude on October 26, continues as repairs on Shettima’s plane are underway. Vice President Shettima and Foreign Affairs Minister Alhaji Yusuf Tuggar have since departed New York for Nigeria.
