About seven inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Center in ilesa ,Osun State, following the collapse of part of the prison wall.
The incident, which occurred today, created an opportunity for the prisoners to flee the premises undetected.
The motive for the development remains uncertain as to whether the collapse was triggered by environmental factors or was intentionally orchestrated.
Confirming the incident, the Controller General of Corrections, CGC, Sylvester Nwakuche, through the Deputy Controller of Corrections / Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar said the facility had launched an expansive manhunt following the rainfall that breached the security of its facility in ilesa.
Controller Nwakuche also ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
He assured that the service was working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody.
