School Resumption: Parents Lament High Cost of Fees, Books, Accessories

Ahead of First Term 2024/2025 School resumption, some parents in Ibadan have lamented increase in the cost of school fees, transportation and prices of school supplies, like books, bags and shoes.

Prime news, gathered during a visited to some bookstores, and markets in Ibadan that sellers also lamented low patronage.

One of the parents Mrs Doyin Ajayi who was buying shoes and books for her children at the Ogunpa market said the cost of school supplies had increased this year compared to last year.

Another parent, Mrs Judith Nnaji lamented that she had not been able to provide half of her children’s list of school supplies, blaming it on the high cost of food and fuel, adding that the cost of living had affect the school fees.

Similarly, a cloth vendor, Mr Deji Afolabi, and a trader in school materials, Mr Abdulahi Omolade decried low patronage, while attributing the high cost of school materials to the hick in transport fare.

Mr Afolabi complained that the cost of school supplies had stopped parents from buying new uniforms and other school materials for their children.

The parents and traders called on Governments at all levels to intervene in the Economic situation and reverse the hike in school fees.
