Residents in Shock Over Alleged Suicide of Middle Aged Man in Ondo

Residents of Oda Town in Akure South Local Government area of Ondo State were thrown into mourning on Wednesday morning after a middle-aged man, identified simply as Friday, allegedly hanged himself.

The deceased, popularly known as ‘Koko’, was said to be from Calabar in Cross River State.

He reportedly took his life in a dilapidated building located near the residence of his mother and siblings in the Emiloro community of the town.

His body was later discovered inside the building, brought down and laid on the floor prompting an outpouring of grief as sympathisers and residents gathered at the scene to console his family.

When Newsmen visited the location, the body had been laid on a mat inside the building.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the deceased’s friends expressed shock over the incident, noting that Koko had previously advised some of his peers against frequenting nightclubs.

“I don’t know what could have led him to take his life,” the friend said.

Another associate, who was visibly emotional, said he had been on his way to meet the deceased for their daily work when he received news of the tragedy.

He lamented the development, describing it as devastating for the deceased’s mother, siblings and friends.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, while the body had yet to be evacuated from the scene.
