Poor Logistics Mar Oyo LG Election
Voters in Oyo state are currently waiting helplessly to exercise their franchise in the ongoing local government election due to unavailability of OYSIEC officials to conduct the polls.
wide spread reports across the 33 local government areas indicate low turnout of voters to cast their ballot but were met with disappointment due to non-availability of OSIEC ad-hoc officials to conduct the poll.
Some of the local government areas where the poll is yet to commence include Oyo East, Oyo West, Atiba, Iseyin, and Ibarapa East and some local governments in Ibadan metropolis
it was gathered that the exercise which is slated to commence at 8 o’clock in the morning has not begun in many polling units visited, we also observed that poor logistics in the movement of materials and officials which may sell the option of voters’ apathy to the residents.
Voters who lamented the situation blamed the Oyo State electoral independent commission for denying them their civic right.
Though there was restriction on vehicular movement there were pockets of non-compliance while business and commercial activities were at low ebb as residents comported themselves in orderly manner.
Speaking shortly after casting his ballot at ward 1, Unit 11 in Ibadan northeast local government, the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde urged voters to come and exercise their franchise.
Nineteen political parties registered and fielded candidates to participate in the election.
