The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Pensions Board (LGPB), Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige, has announced that pensioners in the state are receiving their 13th-month payment. Hon. Ige disclosed this while receiving the newly inaugurated executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, led by the Chairman, Akeem Abas in his office on Wednesday.
In a statement by the Oyo NUJ Secretary of the council, Dayo Adu, Hon. Ige explained that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration has significantly improved the welfare of pensioners in the state.
According to him, one of the major highlights of the administration’s commitment to the welfare of retired public servants was the increase in their minimum pension from N1,800 to N25,000.
Hon. Ige highlighted that the improved pension scheme was part of Governor Makinde’s broader plan to raise the standard of living for pensioners in the state. He emphasized that the state government’s dedication to its retirees was not just about paying pensions but ensuring a dignified life for them after their years of service.
The LGPB Chairman further noted that the 13th-month payment has been made this December, giving pensioners an opportunity to celebrate the festive season without financial concerns.
He stated that this payment was a gesture of goodwill from the state government to reward pensioners for their contributions to public service.
According to the LGPB Chairman, the state government remains committed to ensuring that pensioners enjoy improved living conditions and are not left behind in the state’s development agenda. He also mentioned that Oyo State was one of the few in the country to consistently prioritize the welfare of its pensioners.
Hon. Ige expressed his gratitude to the pensioners for their patience and loyalty, while assuring them that the Oyo State government would continue to work towards further enhancing their welfare.
