The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has inaugurated a five-member Screening and Credential Committee to oversee the screening of aspirants and conduct of the forthcoming council election.
The committee, ratified by the Congress, has Alhaji Ismail Fasasi (NUJIC) as Chairman and Comrade Afolakemi Akanbi as Secretary. Other members include Mr. Oluwakayode Banjo (FRCN), Comrade Segun Oyedokun (NFTV), and Comrade Ismail Ogundeji (Oke-Ogun Chapel).
Inaugurating the committee, the Oyo NUJ Chairman, Chief Demola Babalola, charged the committee to ensure transparency, neutrality, and fairness throughout the process.
He commended aspirants for their maturity during consultations and urged them to embrace peace, avoid violence, and conduct issue-based campaign.
“If you forget, the internet does not forget. Be careful about what you post on social media. Campaigns will flag off in October, so shun campaigns of calumny,” Babalola cautioned.
Also inaugurated was the 2025 Press Week Committee, scheduled to hold in the first week of October. Members of the committee include Elder Kemi Olaitan (Chairman), Mrs Omolola Alamu (Secretary), Mr Seyifunmi Odunuga, Alhaja Iyabo Adebisi, and Comrade Abiodun Atilola.
