Oyo First Lady Leads Sensitisation on Measles, Rubella Vaccination

To protect children from measles and Rubella,the Renewed Hope initiative,office of the wife of the governor of Oyo state and the Center for wellness and integrated nutrition solution have organized a sensitization programme on measles and Rubella vaccination.

The programme which came up at the local government Secretariat,Oyo state,had in attendance stakeholders in the health sector, community leaders,women groups and government officials.

In her welcome address the state’s commissioner for health,Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi said every child’s life matters,hence the need for mothers to present their children for the vaccination

Dr Ajetunmobi listed some of the symptoms of Rubella to include stunted growth,mental retardation,blindness heart defects and deafness,among others especially when it was passed down from an expectant mother to her child, thereby reiterating the need to avail children from 9 months to 15 years old for vaccination.

Orji said combining the vaccines was an improvement on the measles vaccine initially administered on children.

Mrs Orji maintained that caring for a child with disabilities may be difficult in this part of the world,hence the need to present the children for the vaccination.

In an address, wife of the state governor,Mrs Tamunominini Makinde,campaigned for the effectiveness of the exercise and called on caregivers and stakeholders to make sure the exercise was a success.

Mrs Makinde said the vaccination which would start up before the year runs out implored the field workers to be intentional about vaccination as when carried out effectively, the state would be free from sicknesses , especially among the children .

The programme featured walk to sensitize the public on the importance of the vaccine with stakeholders carrying placards with inscriptions such as protect your family, get vaccinated against measles and rubella,say no to measles and rubella.

Meanwhile,the entourage paid a courtesy call on the state governor, Seyi Makinde who expressed his readiness to finance the fight against measles and rubella championed by Renewed Hope Initiative.

‎Governor Makinde also admitted that the collaboration of the state and local governments would help measles and rubella vaccinations get to the grassroots.

The ‎Governor expressed stated this while hosting representatives of the Renewed Hope Initiative, led by his wife, Mrs. Tamunomini Makinde, in his office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

‎He pledged to ensure that the measles and rubella vaccination was funded immediately by his government for the success of the campaigns in the state.

‎Governor Makinde also admitted that the collaboration of the state and local governments would help measles and rubella vaccinations get to the grassroots.

‎While commending his wife and other partners including local government, WHO, UNICEF for leading the advocacy, He encouraged parents to cooperate with field workers.
