The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across Osun State by an additional 72 hours to enable more registered voters to obtain their cards ahead of the election.
The extension follows reports of challenges encountered by prospective voters during the exercise, including large crowds at collection centres.
In a statement, the Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, Mr. Ariyo Rufus, disclosed that 322,822 Permanent Voter Cards, representing 62 per cent of the available PVCs, had been collected so far.
According to the statement, the commission approved the extension in response to complaints from members of the public and the high turnout recorded at registration area centres.
INEC said PVC collection at the registration areas would now continue until Friday, July 31, 2026, to allow more eligible voters to collect their cards and participate in the electoral process.
The commission explained that the extension would not affect the next phase of the exercise, as collection at Local Government Area offices would still hold from August 1 to August 7, 2026.
INEC, therefore, appealed to all registered voters yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to take advantage of the extension and avoid the last-minute rush.
