In a bid to enhance data quality and reporting in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), health workers from the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Ondo State have undergone training on the District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2).
The training, which took place in Akure on Friday, focused on equipping participants with the technical skills and knowledge required to effectively manage and utilise the DHIS2 platform for NTDs data management.
Speaking during the exercise, the State Coordinator for NTDs, Mrs. Olanike Oladipupo, said the training was aimed at building the capacity of health workers to ensure sustainable improvement in health data management across the state.
According to her, the training would not only address immediate knowledge gaps but also create a long-term impact by strengthening health workers’ ability to handle digital health tools efficiently.
The Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, who was represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Stephen Fagbemi, appreciated the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, as well as Mission to Save the Helpless (MITOSATH), for supporting the initiative.
He lauded their continued efforts in training health sector personnel, noting that such interventions contribute meaningfully to improved healthcare delivery in the state.
Ikuomola stressed the importance of embracing digital transformation in the health sector, pointing out that the DHIS2 training would help streamline the duties of healthcare workers.
He urged participants to make the most of the training by leveraging technology for data collection and analysis, adding that such efforts would enhance public health responses, particularly in tackling NTDs.
“This embrace of digital tools is expected to lead to more efficient data collection, analysis, and ultimately, more targeted and effective public health interventions, especially in the fight against NTDs,” he stated.
