Ondo NSCDC Rallies Stakeholders Against Damage to Fibre-Optic Cables

In furtherance of the resolve of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to vigorously execute it’s statutory mandate as the lead agency in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure (CNAI) and in alignment with the office of the National Security Advisers’ (ONSA) national framework for infrastructure protection, the state command held a strategic engagement with stakeholders on the protection of Fibre-Optic Infrastructure within the State.

At the meeting held at the State Command Headquarters on Wednesday, 25th February 2025, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye JP, expressed concern over the rising cases of damaged underground fibre installations during road constructions leading to disrupted communication and other essential services that could undermine national security

The meeting which had in attendance representatives of the state ministry of works and infrastructure, federal ministry of works, COREN, NCC, as well as Telecommunication Service Providers such as MTN, GLO and Airtel served as avenue to reconcile grey areas in operational activities of construction companies, contractors, developers, excavators and the government apparatus tailored towards protection of under ground and surface utilities.

The high point of the meeting was a resolve to set up a stakeholders committee comprising all the stakeholders that would continue to foster collaboration in addressing issues of underground and surface utilities and other related matters.

The command wishes to use this opportunity to encourage members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities around oil & gas facilities, power & energy installations, telecommunications facilities, education, and health infrastructure to the NSCDC, warning that any individual or corporate body found culpable of negligence or deliberate damage to critical Infrastructure will face prosecution in accordance with extant laws.
