The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, has called on members of the Miyetti Allah and Fulani communities in the state, to collaborate with the state government in the fight against kidnapping.
Akogun Adeleye made the appeal during a strategic meeting with leaders and members of Fulani, Hausa and Miyetti Allah groups drawn from the 18 local government areas of the state. The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ondo State, Mr. Samaila Sagiru.
He noted that unidentified individuals infiltrating communities could be easily detected with the support of residents, urging leaders to help identify and expose unregistered herders allegedly linked to criminal activities.
The commander also warned against illegal roadside trading at unauthorised locations, stating that such activities could serve as a cover for informants aiding criminal operations.
Akogun Adeleye further sought the input of Fulani leaders on practical measures to curb kidnapping, stressing the need for collective responsibility in addressing the security challenge.
Speaking on behalf of the Fulani and Hausa communities, the former Special Assistant to the Governor on Fulani Affairs, Alhaji lbrahim Gunia, pledged their support for the initiative.
Members of the Fulani and Hausa communities expressed appreciation for the engagement, describing it as the first of its kind.
They called for sustained dialogue to promote mutual understanding and trust. The next meeting was scheduled for the middle of the year.
