The Ondo State government has launched a Measles-Rubella vaccine campaign aimed at protecting children from these vaccine-preventable diseases.
At a sensitization meeting with stakeholders, the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, emphasized the importance of creating awareness about the vaccine’s availability in the state.
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa charged stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious figures, and community influencers, to help create grassroots awareness in the fight against child-killer diseases.
She highlighted the devastating consequences of measles and rubella, including lifelong disabilities and death, and urged stakeholders to spread awareness and encourage parents to vaccinate their children.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, described the vaccine as a health security for children, citing the complications associated with Measles and Rubella.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, stated that the vaccination campaign would target children between the ages of nine months and 15 years and would begin on January 20th to 29th, 2026.
The state health educator, Mrs. Florence Oladiji, noted that Measles Rubella is a contagious disease that can cause serious complications and reduce mortality rates.
She emphasized the importance of the vaccine in preventing birth defects and miscarriages.
In a goodwill message, the UNICEF representative, Mr. Tunde Ayoade, appreciated the Ondo State government for introducing the Rubella vaccine, citing its importance in preventing the disease among children.
He pledged UNICEF’s support and technical assistance to protect the children and provide a better future for them.
The launch of the Measles-Rubella vaccine campaign is a significant step towards protecting the health and well-being of children in Ondo State.
