Oluremi Tinubu Expands Food Outreach Scheme to Ondo, Targets Hunger

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has intensified efforts to tackle hunger and child malnutrition through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) with the expansion of community food banks and food outreach programmes across the country.

The intervention reached Ondo State as vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, benefited from the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Programme Food Outreach Scheme held at the International Culture and Event Centre, Akure.

Senator Tinubu Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, said the programme is designed to improve access to nutritious food, strengthen community support systems and ensure vulnerable children grow up healthy.

She  explained that the Food Outreach Scheme, launched in March 2024, provides food items to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to support their families and improve their wellbeing.

The wife of the president said the programme is sustained through the support of two donors who supply two truckloads of food items to the Renewed Hope Initiative every month, enabling two states to benefit monthly.

The First Lady noted that the initiative complements President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by addressing food insecurity and malnutrition while providing support for vulnerable Nigerians.

While welcoming the wife of the president to Ondo state, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the programme as a demonstration of compassion and a practical step towards reducing poverty and improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens.

The governor reaffirmed Ondo State’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government on programmes that promote food security, social welfare and economic development.

He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the food items while assuring them of his administration’s continued support.

Earlier, the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr Olubukola Adelami, commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her commitment to supporting women, children, widows, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

She described the food outreach as a timely intervention for families facing economic challenges and said the state government would continue to complement the Federal Government’s efforts through programmes that promote skills acquisition, economic empowerment and social inclusion.

The event was attended by top government officials, wives of governors from Osun, Ogun and Jigawa states, traditional and religious leaders, heads of security agencies and other stakeholders.
