A 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 3, of Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Ilase, Ipokia local government areas of Ogun State, Timothy Amosun, has been reported dead, following a rainstorm which destroyed the school.
Confirming the incident, The Ogun stste Government through a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Mr Lekan Adeniran, said that five other pupils, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old child also sustained injuries during the tragic incident.
Governor Abiodun who sympathized with the victims of the rainstorm, which caused the collapse of the school building in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state,described the incident as a rude shock and a painful tragedy for the affected families and the community,
The Governor assured the public that the state government would cover the medical expenses of those injured in the rainstorm and also directed that victim in critical condition be transferred to specialist hospitals within and outside Ogun for comprehensive medical care.
Also, the Governor had instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the victims’ families and assess the damage to facilitate the school’s reconstruction.
