Ogun Nurses Protest Slapping of Student Nurse By Orthopaedic Surgeon
Nurses at the Ogun State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, have protested the alleged assault on a final year student nurse by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Adekunle Nurudeen.
They alleged Dr Adekunle, a staff with the hospital, of slapping the student nurse at the theatre suit on Tuesday, 24th September 2024 and that all efforts to seek redress had not yielded any result.
The nurses, armed with placards displaying inscriptions such as “End bullying of nurses, “End nurses brutality, “Zero tolerance for nurses bullying, “Respect for nurses, Respect for care”, “Justice for nurses, a must”, among others, defied the early morning rain to register their displeasure
The protesting nurses led by the state Chairman of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Mrs Adejoke Bello, explained that the assault was against the public service rules and demanded that the culprit must be brought to justice.
Similarly, the Unit Chairman of NANNM, State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, Mrs Lola Falujo also condemned the action of Dr Adekunle saying that it fell below the provisions of the public service rules.
Addressing the protesters, the Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board, Dr Olayinka Elemide, said the government was aware of the incident and assured them that necessary steps were being taken to address the situation.
