The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Bashir Adeniyi says plans have been concluded to begin deployment of automated vehicle verification system in the Country.
Mr Adeniyi who stated this during a working visit to Oyo/Osun Area Command of NCS, in Ibadan explained that the step would enable the Service to determine the authenticity of all vehicles importing into the Country.
The Comptroller-General also noted that, Security of lives and property of Nigerians would be guaranteed as carnage on the nation roads would be drastically reduced.
Mr Adeniyi also further revealed plans to launch an ICT-driven Geo-Spatial Intelligence System to guide Customs patrols more efficiently, replacing random roving with targeted surveillance.
He noted that such technology would help to optimise the manpower in the service.
The Customs Boss, however, urged officers to remain vigilant, noting that their actions or inactions would go a long way at securing the nation.
He hinted that about eight vehicles would be allocated to the Oyo/Osun Area Command to enhance their operations
Welcoming the Comptroller General, the Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Command, Mr Joseph Adelaja, appreciated the visit, describing it as a morale booster to Men and Officers of the Service.
Highlight of the visit was the inspection of the Ibadan Train Station Terminal in Moniya, Ibadan to ensure measures are put in place ahead of the use of inland containers depot.
