The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command has relinquished some arms, ammunition and hard substances, like cannabis sativa intercepted during its operations to the Nigeria Police Force and the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The items and other seizures recorded through the recent anti – smuggling efforts of the Command were estimated to worth a total Duty Paid Value, DPV of more than 344 million naira.
The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Mr Godwin Otunla while addressing journalists at Idiroko said the seizures were part of intensified operations aimed at curbing the inflow of illegal goods into Nigeria through the Ogun border corridor.
Mr Otunla said the contrabands, including more than 1000 parcels of coconut – size cannabis sativa, locally made firearms, live cartridges, exotic vehicles and about 13 thousand litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS were intercepted along the Idiroko, Imeko-Afon, Lussada roads and other townships.
Mr Otunla, who attributed the success to a renewed strategic realignment and enhanced commitment within the command, also announced a revenue increase from over 10.5 million in April 2025 to more than 42 million naira in June 2025.
He commended the synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and other security and enforcement agencies in the region, reiterating his unwavering commitment to national security, economic integrity and improved public health by preventing the circulation of illicit goods and substances.
The Area Controller warned smugglers and criminal elements to desist from the acts, emphasizing that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven operations and advanced surveillance techniques to ensure that the borders remained secure.
Speaking during the official handover of the items, the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Idiroko Division, Mr. Bukola Oye, and the Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA, Idiroko Area Command, Mr. Williams Ekundayo commended the Customs Service for the sustained efforts and pledged to further deepen their collaborations.
