Mrs Aiyedatiwa Harps on Parental Support for Children to End Bullying

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, has called on parents to build strong relationship with their children to help them speak up against bullying.

Mrs Aiyedatiwa noted that bullying occurred not only in schools but also at home and in the community, urging parents to make themselves approachable and supportive.

Mrs Aiyedatiwa, while speaking at the children’s day celebration, organised by the Ondo state Ministry of Women Affairs and held at the Gani Fawehinmi freedom archade, Igbatoro road, Akure condemned cyber bullying and charged children to speak out whenever they encounter such.

She said children, when bullied could be affected morally , academically and even lead to damage or loss of self-esteem.

Bully only do not only happens in schools our outside, but I want to tell you as a mother that it happen in our different homes too and nobody is talking about it . It happens among siblings, parents, even within our environment, Adults bullying children, so we need to also know that.” She said.

“There is a saying , charity begins at home, if the children are confidence at home, if the children are comfortable at home , they will be able to face any challenges outside”.

Please as parents especially mother’s let’s us make out children out friends, gat is when they will be able to speak up , they will be able to talk to us of anything that is happening to them , I just want to encourage you all.”

Earlier in her welcome address, Special Adviser to the governor on women Affairs, Dr Seun Osamaye said the celebration was put together to foster unity and networking among the children for a brighter future.

She noted that the theme for this year’s children’s day celebration ” STAND UP, SPEAK UP: BUILDING FREE GENERRATION” restating government commitment towards safeguarding the rights of children in the State.

In a goodwill message, the chairman, council of obas in Ondo state , The Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye described children as the piority of any government because they were the leaders of tomorrow

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa while inaugurating the Children’s Parliament said it was a move aimed at encouraging children’s involvement in governance.

Representative of the ondo children parliament, Olamide Poroye, commended the governor for resuscitating the platform after 12 years of inactivity.

Over 1000 children from all the 18 local government area of Ondo State m, Students and Pupils gathered from various schools, some in their uniform, ceremonial dress and others in traditional attire, participated in the remarkable competition which included match past, oratory skills, and cultural parade display contests.
