The Federal Government has approved a comprehensive reform of admission requirements across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, marking a major step in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to democratize access to higher education.
The new policy, spearheaded by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, aims to remove barriers that have long restricted many qualified candidates from gaining admission
Dr. Alausa said the reform would expand access to tertiary education for an additional 250,000 to 300,000 students each year.
“This is a deliberate effort to ensure that every Nigerian youth has a fair chance to learn, grow, and succeed,” he said. “It reflects our firm commitment to putting the Renewed Hope Agenda into action.”
He added that harmonizing admission guidelines would reduce the number of out-of-school youths, strengthen vocational and technical education, and align Nigeria’s tertiary education structure with global and industry standards.
“Young people remain the heartbeat of the nation,” the Minister stated. “The government is committed to equipping them with the education and skills they need to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.”
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education, human capital development, and youth empowerment as core pillars of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
