The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reactivated the portal of Jamiu Basola, a Civil Engineering graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) after he was previously flagged for possessing a fake admission.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the National Association of Nigerian Students’ (NANS) national public relations officer, Adeyemi Ajasa. He described the resolution of the case as a significant victory for justice and student welfare.
The development ends weeks of controversy surrounding his eligibility for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Ajasa said JAMB has reactivated Basola’s portal and included his name on the matriculation list, a requirement for NYSC mobilisation.
Basola”s case gained public attention after his admission was flagged as “fake” by JAMB, despite him completing his studies with a cumulative grade point average of 4.41.
He shared his predicament on social media, saying that JAMB invalidated his admission seven years after he began his university education.
Ajasa attributed the resolution to sustained pressure from NANS national leadership and its southwest zone.
He also commended the FUTA civil engineering department for its efforts in clarifying Basola’s admission status with JAMB.
NANS pledged to monitor Basola’s case to ensure his full mobilisation in the next NYSC batch.
