Israel-Hamas War: Scholars, Clerics Counsel Nigerians to Stay Clear
Scholars and Clerics have cautioned against replication of the ongoing Isreal-Hamas war in Nigeria. Saying continuous peaceful coexistence among religious groups makes the Nigerian society a virile one.
They gave the caution at a seminar organised by the Oyo State chapter of Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) tagged ” Israeli/Hamans war not a religious war” with Christian and Muslim leaders at the seminar as part of its effort of fostering peaceful co-existence among Nigerians irrespective of religion or ethnic background.
In his comment Prof. Hafiz Oladosu stated that it is important for Nigerians to accept one another the way they are and everything about them including their faith and religion.
Prof Oladosu of the University of Ibadan said religious faithfuls on both sides should desist from using religious leaders as yardstick for whatever is wrong in any of the main religion but hold firmly whatever their belief is their maker.
The Islamic Scholar added that while it is important for Nigerians to continue to pray for peace in the affected war zones, it is important for Nigerians to also be at peace with one another.
In his lecture, Dr Job Okunoye identified continued sensitization by religious leaders of their followers about the current happenings in order to avert unnecessary spread.
Dr Okunoyeof the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo also emphasised that there is a need for special appeal to Israel and Hamas to cease fire and embrace peace.
Dr Okunoye also called religious leaders in the nation to help facilitate aids to the affected war zones in order to bring succour to those affected by the war.
Earlier in their remarks, the Co-Chairmen, IDFP, Oyo State, Rev’d Olusegun Olaobaju and Barr Lawal said the programme was organised to enlighten religious leaders not to see the see the situation in Israel and Gaza as war between Christianity and Islam.
Special prayer was also said for the two affected countries and nations of the World for peace.
