HPV: Paediatricians Take Vaccination Campaign to Mothers in Ibadan
In a bid to reduce the high rate of Cervical Cancer among women, the Paediatric Association of Nigeria has educated the female folks, especially, mothers on the need for parents and guardians to ensure their young girls between age 9 to 14 years receive Human Papiloma Virus Vaccine, HPV to prevent the disease.
The one day sensitisation programme organised in support with the International Peadatric Association and Immunization Champions, exposed the mothers who gathered at Primary Health Care Apete Ibadan to the benefits of early vaccination and other ways to diagnose and detect HPV
The Programme featured questions and answers session as well as presentation of gifts to Nursing Mothers.
National Treasurer, Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN) Dr Beatrice Ezenwa,encouraged parents and guardians to take advantage of the free Vaccine by giving their consent or take their young girls to get immunized
Dr. Ezemwa, a Consultant paediatrician at the Lagos Teaching Hospital, maintained that HPV vaccines would remain free at Government Health Facilities from October this year to January next year for young girls from 9 years to 14 years after which only age 9 would continue to benefit freely. 
Also Speaking a Paediatrican who is one of the immunization champions in Oyo State, Dr Funsho Balogun noted that HPV Vaccine was very effective and safe capable of preventing the deadly disease with a single dose administration
Dr Balogun explained that the side effects were mild, urging parents not panic when they notice any changes in their young girls and should also visit the hospital for proper examination and care.
Lending her voice , an official at Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs Funmilayo Abodunrin, said the Primary Health Care Apete was strategically chosen to achieve larger spread of the information on HPV Vaccine.
Some Nursing Mothers at the event appreciated PAN and IPA for the awareness programme describing it as timely.
