Heavy Security as INEC Conducts Re-run in Saki

There was heavy presence of security agents at the affected polling units at the two polling units into Saki West State Constituency of Oyo State House of Assembly as electorate turned out in large numbers to cast their votes.

Prime News gathered that the security agents were deployed to forestall breaking down of law and order as the INEC Electoral officers conduct rerun at two polling units

It was observed that despite the very cold weather in the area in the morning, many voters were seen wrapped in scarves and heavy coats, to exercising their civic responsibility.

The atmosphere at the two poling units was peaceful as electorates were seen performing their civic right without hindrance or intimidation.

The officials of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences, ICPC, and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, were on ground at the two poling units to prevent vote buying.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Oyo state Dr. Adeniran Tella, who visited the two affected polling units in company of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat commended the seamless conduct of the exercise.

Dr Tella also gave reasons for the re-run election, which he said was as a result of the ruling of an Appeal court on the judgement of the 2023 Election petition tribunal.

The judgements followed record of electoral malpractices in the 2023 state assembly election ranging from over-voting in the affected polling units and by-passing of BVAS during election accreditation.

The affected polling units are Odo-osun 007 in Ogidigbo area and Ogbalanja polling unit 019 in Sepeteri/Bapon registration area.
