Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He announced his resignation on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa Government House. Diri did not disclose his next political destination.
The governor’s decision received the backing of 23 members of the State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker.
His exit ends months of speculation about his possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, declined to confirm the party Diri will join.
Diri’s resignation came barely 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, also left the PDP for the ruling APC.
