Go for Diabetes Screening When You Notice Frequent Thirst, Excessive Urination, Weight Loss – Dr Daikwo

Nigerians have been enjoined to go for diabetes screening when they notice frequent thirst, excessive urine and unexplained weight loss.

A Medical expert with the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, EKSUTH, Dr Samuel Daikwo gave the advice while speaking on commemorativon of this year’s World Diabetes Day with the theme “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps,”

Dr. Daikwo who stressed that diabetes caused more than six million deaths annually, called for concerted efforts from individuals to pay attention to their health.

Dr. Daikwo who noted that about six hundred million adults are battling the disease worldwide, enjoined the people to always seek doctor’s prescription in order to protect their lives from health hazards.

He however called for lifestyle modification and desist from cigarettes smoking and alcohol consumption stressing the need for thirty minutes physical fitness for five days a week in order to live a healthy life.

He added that diabetes could lead to serious damage of the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, nerves, teeth as well as foot, hence the need to eat more proteinous food.
