Food Price Hike: Ekiti Monarch Dispatches Chiefs to Markets

The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Ajibade Alabi has ordered his chiefs to storm the markets in his domain in a bid to force a review on the reduction in the prices of foods and consumables in the community.

Oba Alabi, who is a former chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers said he could not the indiscriminate food price hike noting that he won’t sit back and allow his subjects be subjected to wallow in untold harships ocassioned by artificial markets forces.

The monarch also ordered strict compliance and adoption acceptable measurements for all food items like gari, rice , beans ,plantain flours and other consumables in the markets.

Report has it that members of the Alawe in Council, women chiefs including the Iyaloja and the Iyalaje stormed the central market popularly known as Oja Oba on Wednesday to enforce the Alawe’s directive.

The exercise which took the chiefs more than one hour was welcomed by the traders and the buyers hailing the Monarch for the ingenious action while the sellers promised to maintain reasonable prices on Thier goods.

In a statement by the Media Adviser to the Alawe ,High Chief Ajibade Olubunmi , said the foremost monarch, who had set up a Market Committee in the wake of the rising inflation also directed members to routinely monitor prices of food items in all the markets in the community.

He directed that all traders must reduce prices of their food items to a reasonable level and that everyone must cooperate to bring the soaring prices of all food items down .
