The Ekiti State Government has warned property speculators and land grabbers against further selling of government lands at Ekiti State University area.
The Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor on Lands, Surveys and Geographic Information System, Professor James Olaleye gave the warning at a meeting in Ado-Ekiti with some community leaders from Olorunda, Olorunsogo, Ikigbisi, Irewumi and other adjoining areas of the state capital.
Olaleye explained that the Land in question was acquired by the State Government in 1982 for the establishment of the State University with proper documentation and acquisition processes formalized stressing that in view of these facts, no individual or group has the right to lay claim on it as the land legally belongs to government .
While stressing that it is a criminal offense on the part of anybody to sell property of government noting that whoever is caught in such act would be made to face the wrath of the law.
“I want to warn those that are still selling lands there to stop doing so forthwith.This is a very bad attitude and a criminal offense under the law.
Let all of you avail yourselves with the provisions of the Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing) Law, 2024, as the law is explicit in prohibiting forceful entry, illegal occupation, and fraudulent activities related to land and landed properties in Ekiti State
Please help us caution those that involved in this unwholesome practice to desist otherwise they will be prosecuted” he warned.
