A man has been arrested in Ikole Local Government Area for allegedly selling alcoholic drinks at a polling unit during today’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
Police officers on election duty reportedly apprehended the suspect while he was trading beer to voters and party agents within the polling area.
The police said the action contravened restrictions put in place to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise.
The Ekiti State Police Command had earlier banned hawking and the sale or consumption of alcohol around polling units, alongside restrictions on movement and political activities.
The command said the arrest was aimed at deterring other would-be violators and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
