Edo Lauches Project To Eliminate Malaria Project
The Edo State Government has launched the training and flag-off ceremony for the Malaria Elimination Project in the state.
The initiative represents a significant step in the administration’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that preventable diseases like malaria no longer endanger the people of Edo.
The stakeholder workshop follows the successful launch of the free malaria testing and treatment project by Governor Monday Okpebholo on February 5, 2025, which will be available in all government hospitals in Edo for the next two years.
In his remarks, Edo State Commissioner for Health Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole stated that the government, under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, remained dedicated to strengthening healthcare systems and implementing sustainable disease control strategies.
Dr. Oshiomhole noted that through the training, healthcare workers would gain the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively detect, prevent, and manage malaria cases.
Executive Director of the Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF), Dr. Arome Salifo explained that the current prevalence of malaria in Edo State was thirty percent, saying that one in every three individuals carries the malaria parasite in their blood.
