The member representing Akoko-Edo One, Prince Yekini Idaiye has been elected as the speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Prince Idaiye was nominated for the position of the speaker by the member representing Owan East in the assembly, Mr Eric Okaka and seconded by the member representing Akoko-Edo Two, Mr Donald Okogbe.
After taking the oath of office, the speaker announced the suspension of the former speaker and directed him to hand over all documents and paraphernalia of his office to the clerk of the House.
He explained that the suspension of the former speaker was to ensure thorough investigation of corruption allegations against him.
Mr Agbebaku had earlier resigned his position as the speaker of the house, and the letter of his resignation was on social media before the start of plenary this morning.
